The internet was set ablaze on Monday night, after Ben Affleck revealed that he wouldn’t be directing ‘The Batman’.
In his statement:
“There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions, Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world.”
Notably, there are some people who think something is wrong behind the scenes. Some even speculated that Ben Affleck could leave the role entirely. John Campea, of Collider Movie Talk, went another route and said that the statement Affleck put out was total BS:
“This is the perfect statement for them to put out – what Ben Affleck read. [But] it’s all bullshit. None of that is real. None of that is true. We have smelled this for weeks and weeks that something was not right. Don’t tell me that it’s become clear that I can’t do both. Really? Just two weeks ago on Fallon, you said you were doing it no problem. It’s become clear that you can’t really give the performance and direct at the same time. Really? Because besides ‘Live by Night’ the last time he did it, the movie won best picture at the Academy Awards. So don’t feed me this bullshit – I understand why you’re saying it, and it is the right statement to put out, absolutely. But we have smelled this coming for a long time.”
You can watch the entire video below – in which Campea predicted that this was going to happen weeks ago.
While it’s easy to speculate what’s going on behind the scenes, no real concrete information has come out. There’s no denying that it SEEMS like something is definitely going on with The DCEU, and I personally believe things really went wrong when WB re-edited Suicide Squad to try and achieve a lighter tone – which messed the movie up pretty bad.
