Many people agreed that 2016 was a bad year, but this is especially true for the actor Ben Affleck, with reports that his latest film, Live By Night, is set to suffer a loss of $75 Million. Read on to find out more.
Live By Night was Affleck’s fourth directorial effort after Gone Baby Gone, The Town and Argo and cost $65 Million to make before taking into account the marketing costs. If I was Affleck, I’d be looking to claim some of the money back from the marketing department as the film only managed to gross $16.5 Million across all the territories it opened in.
This is a long way from the profits made by his previous efforts, The Town made $154 Million off a $37 Million budget, Gone Baby Gone made $34.6 Million off $19 Million whilst Argo brought in $232.3 million off just $44.5 Million.
It wasn’t just audiences who weren’t too impressed with the film, the critics weren’t too fond of the gangster flick either. As it stands, the film currently has a 32% rating on RottenTomatoes with many critics describing it as underwhelming and soulless. Again this very different from the situation with his previous films with Gone Baby Gone, The Town and Argo scoring 94%, 94% and 96% respectively. Argo also managed to bag the Academy Award for Best Picture at the 85th Academy Awards in 2012.
As previously stated, this would have closed out a pretty disappointing year for the Good Will Hunting actor, with Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice recieving a less than favourable with fans when it was released back in March. His other big release of the year, The Accountant also failed to make a huge impact with audiences with a 51% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Hopefully the coming year will prove more fruitful for the actor, with him set to return as the Caped Crusader in the highly anticipated Justice League as well as beginning production on his own Batman film.
