Earlier today, the nominations for the 2017 Academy Awards were announced and whilst it was mostly as expected, there was one snub which got fans filed. No, I’m not talking about Amy Adams, I’m talking about Deadpool. Now, the film’s star, Ryan Reynold’s has responded to the news that he won’t be honored amongst Hollywood’s finest.
With the film being nominated for several other awards, including the Producers Guild Awards, the Writers Guild Awards and even the Golden Globes, many fans had hoped that the Merc with a Mouth would get some love at the the Academy Awards next month. Alas it was not to be, and now Reynolds has taken to his Twitter to congratulate the other nominees:
Regularly scheduled tickle-fight at Camp #Deadpool is still on. Congrats to all the nominees for these brilliant films. #Oscars2017

It must be disappointing that Deadpool received no nominations, especially since Fox actually created a ‘For your Consideration’ ad for the film. What must hurt even more is the fact that Suicide Squad, a film which was recently nominated for multiple razzie awards, can now can call itself an Academy Award nominated film with a nomination for Best Makeup and Hairstyling.
Hopefully this disappointment won’t stop Deadpool from making an appearance at the ceremony, possibly in the form of Kanye West style walk on. It would certainly be a joy to see.
Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.
You can check out the Academy Awards on 26th February.
