Fans excited for Ben Affleck’s standalone ‘The Batman’ film may have to wait a while as an unofficial rumor claims that production on the film has hit a snag, and has subsequently been delayed for a couple of months.
This doesn’t initially seem to be a problem, as this Batman film is one of the few planned releases on DC’s slate not to have been given a fixed release date, so there is no real pressure to get it done in a rush.
However there does seem to be some worry with what the source also added, with the delay being attributed to Justice League being a ‘mess’. Now this as a story is not one to openly trust, as since Suicide Squad’s troubled post-production it seems to be the trend that every DC film now must therefore also be a mess in post, and that is unlikely to be the case each time. Remember when the same story happened with a WB worker apparently claiming that Wonder Woman is a mess? When that simply was not the case.
In much more positive and trustworthy news, Ben Affleck has doubled down on his promise to directed the solo Batman film, saying in a recent interview:
“I’m gonna direct the next Batman, we’re working on it, it’s one of those things that’s really frustrating because with ‘Live By Night’ it took me a year-and-a-half to write it and get it ready and I worked really hard. It’s just no one gave a s**t. No one was like, ‘WHERE’S ‘LIVE BY NIGHT?’ But with Batman I keep getting the, “WHERE’S THE F**KING BATMAN?” I’m like, “Whoa, I’m working! Give me a second!”
There are many good things to take away from this comment, aside from the confirmation that Ben Affleck will not back down from directing the film, but also the fact that he’s taking time on the screenplay. He wants to get it right, and he doesn’t want to rush it. No example of WB wanting a whole screenplay written in 6 weeks and rushing that out to be seen here.
Put it simply, while ‘The Batman’ may not have a fixed release date, or title, or many things going for it unlike the other DCEU films. Ben Affleck clearly cares about this project, and is willing to put in the time and effort. And that alone is enough to give me hope for this film.
