Just a couple of years ago, rumors were running wild as to who would play Doctor Strange. Joaquin Phoenix was at one point hotly anticipated at nabbing the role however other names like Jared Leto and Ryan Gosling were also being flung around. We all knew these were potential options however we never really knew how close either of these actors really came to getting the part – or if they actually wanted it.
Well now it looks as if Ryan Gosling was a serious choice if recent concept art is to be believed. Court Chu has recently shared two pieces of concept art that he had created for the film which shows Ryan Gosling in full Strange attire. According to Chu, Gosling was a serious contender for the role of Sorcerer Supreme however it seems as if those intentions were short lived:
“I worked probably not even a day on some version of Doctor Strange years ago, and back then they wanted Gosling.”

Not bad for a few hours work I must say. Although the design does look comic book accurate, it’s probably for the best that Marvel didn’t decide to go with these designs as the collar looks way too big to be taken seriously on the silver screen. It’s interesting to see what could have been although I’m sure the majority of fans are glad at how it all turned out in the end.
With Benedict Cumberbatch returning to the role in Thor: Ragnarok on October 27th, 2017, fans will not have to wait long to see what other adventures he’ll be up to next.
What do you think of the design? Would you have liked to see Gosling in the role? Or are you much happier with Cumberbatch’s performance? Sound off down below!
