Whenever we finally reach a new year, one of the upsides for us film fans is that suddenly all these films announced years in advance start to feel much closer. Whilst this may come as a good thing for us, for the studios creating these films it can cause problems.
This has recently become apparent with The Batman, which is set to hit theaters next year, as word from director Ben Affleck is that the production is apparently further behind schedule than previously assumed.
Whilst promoting his latest film, Live by Night, Affleck was asked by The Guardian about directing the upcoming Solo flick, which is when he explained:
“It’s not a set thing and there’s no script, If it doesn’t come together in a way I think is really great I’m not going to do it.”
The announcement that Affleck would be helming the flick came at the San-Diego Comic Con back in July, with the film apparently being a priority for Warner Brothers even taking priority over the future Justice League Sequel.
Whilst it’s entirely possible that they could shoot the film this year in time for the release date next year, the fact that it doesn’t yet have a script is slightly worrying. It was rumored that the Suicide Squad was rushed into production for the same reason and look how that turned out. Granted it was a financial success, but critically the film was panned.
Given his dedication to the character, I have to believe that Affleck would do everything in his power to make sure that we get the best possible Batman film. Although if he does elect to only Star in the film, it’s hard to know just how it will turn out.
All we know of the films plot so far is that the titular hero will battle it out against Joe Manganiello’s villainous Deathstroke whilst being aided by J.K. Simmons and Jeremy Irons as Commissioner Gordon and Alfred respectively.
What do you think? Will you be disappointed if Affleck doesn’t direct? Who would be a good choice to take the reins? Let us know below!
