Nicolas Cage seems to take every single role offered to him these days. Some are good, some are bad and some are so bad that they’re good. So, if the offer was on the table to play Ronald Reagan in a biopic, you’d think it’d be a no brainer for the actor, right?
Wrong.
Apparently, the actor is deciding whether or not it would hurt his career. It’s said to be a very Conservative oriented film, that could apparently infuriate the mostly Liberal Hollywood crowd. It’s the same film that Will Ferrell and Adam McKay ended up passing on because they determined it wasn’t in good taste – as it would have satirized the former president’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Obviously, the film wouldn’t have been perceived well, so the plug was pulled. It’s not known whether or not the script has been changed.
Per the report from Page Six:
The Oscar-winning actor has been offered the lead in a movie that will show the conservative president in a flattering light, infuriating the liberal Hollywood crowd — the opposite of “Reagan,” the movie in which Will Ferrell was going to play the president as senile.
When asked for comment, Cage’s publicist Stephen Huvane said that following:
“It’s way too early in the development process,” he said.
It sounds like an interesting prospect, Nicolas Cage playing Ronald Reagan, but hopefully not in the tasteless way that (it sounds like) the Ferrell and McKay film would have done it.
The $25 million film is expected to span the former president’s life – all the way back to his teenage years up to his time as president.
