Monday night, WWE Raw came to us from Chicago, Illinois. We’re always treated to a raucous crowd in the Second City, and last night was no different.
In the years since the company’s acrimonious parting of the ways with hometown star CM Punk, the loyal Chicago crowd can always be counted on to chant his name. They especially love doing it when head honchos Triple H or Stephanie McMahon are speaking.
The tradition was carried on last night, when McMahon was addressing the crowd at the beginning of the broadcast. “CM PUNK! CM PUNK! CM PUNK!” the crowd screamed incessantly. Without missing a beat, Steph responded with trademark snark:
“If you could keep that up for 2 minutes and 15 seconds, you’d last 1 second longer than CM Punk did!”
(She is referring, of course, to Punk’s anticlimactic UFC debut, in which he was defeated soundly by Mickey Gall.)
