When it comes to an end of year list for movies, the huddled masses of IMDb probably aren’t the first place you would look to. But if that is your chosen site for the biggest films of the year, then you may be in for a bit of a surprise when you see just what managed to make it onto their Top 10 Movies of 2016 list.
The list was released earlier this week, and as you can see it involves a fairly ‘unique’ selection of films. Many of the film’s that appear on the list were pretty poorly received, including the number one film, Suicide Squad. You can check out the full list below.
1. Suicide Squad
2. Captain America: Civil War
3. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
4. Deadpool
5. X-Men: Apocalypse
6. The Jungle Book
7. The Magnificent Seven
8. Ghostbusters
9. Warcraft
10. The Legend of Tarzan
What you should realize is that the list does actually relate to users ratings of the film, but merely the amount of clicks that the film’s page received. Given the amount of controversy a couple of these film’s received upon release, such as Suicide Squad and the Ghostbusters reboot, it’s understandable that the the film would garner some attention. Although the absence of Rogue One and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and the inclusion of Warcraft and The Legend of Tarzan raises a few questions.
If you were to take a look at the highest ranked film’s based on users ratings, it looks somewhat more acceptable with many well received films making the cut. You can check out that list below.
1. La La Land, 8.9
2. Moonlight, 8.7
3. Hacksaw Ridge, 8.5
4. Manchester by the Sea, 8.5
5. Arrival, 8.3
6. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, 8.3
7. Zootopia, 8.1
8. Moana, 8.1
9. Deadpool, 8.1
10. Kubo and the Two Strings, 8.0
It definitely shows that the quality of a film certainly doesn’t affect the film’s popularity. You never know, perhaps more websites will be listing the DC film as the film of the year in the coming weeks.
What do you think? Do you agree with the list? What would your top ten look like? Let us know below!
