Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, Dunkirk, has had an interesting ad campaign. The teaser just had a couple scenes of soldiers before cutting to the title and even with a new detailed trailer released, its hard to get a grasp on the plot and characters, but in weird way, that’s what makes it look interesting.
The film’s official synopsis is that soldiers of the British Empire, Belgium and France are surrounded by German forces in Dunkirk during World War II, specifically between May 26 and June 4 in 1940. Now they have to evacuate the area in the real life Operation Dynamo.
As stated, even with the new trailer, the details and characters are kind of unclear. It leaves so much vague, but it reveals just enough to bring interest to anyone watching it. The convincing performances by the actors shown so far as well as the brutally amazing action sequences definitely help in this.
As far as the film’s cast is concerned, it’s a mix of newcomers such as Fionn Whitehead, Jack Lowden, Aneurin Barnard, and Harry Styles (yes, THAT Harry Styles), as well as veteran actors such as Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh, Cillian Murphy, James D’Arcy and Tom Hardy. Most of the veterans have worked with Nolan in past films such as Inception and The Dark Knight Trilogy.
Dunkirk is set for a limited release on July 19, 2017, with a wide release two days later. It is directed and written by Christopher Nolan with music by Hans Zimmer and cinematography done by Hoyte van Hoytema.
