We’ve been gone for a minute but we’re back to let you know what’s worth streaming this weekend. There’s something for the holidays, something for a supernatural fan, something from the drama department, and a little bit of history in your diet; we got’em all.
Home Alone (1990) Comedy
Well don’t you know, it’s almost Christmas time? So why not get in the festive mood, get the family together around a warm fire and watch this absolute classic. It’s a film that I’ve seen at least 20 times and one that I’ll never grow bored of. It’s arguably one of the best Christmas films ever made and probably one of the best family films too.
It’s fun, it’s clever, and it’s a timeless classic! I mean, what’s better than watching two criminals get outsmarted at every opportunity to the wise cracking Macaulay Culkin? Exactly, nothing! So get a warm beverage, turn the lights off and stick it on.

Lost Girls (2010-2015) Supernatural/Drama/ Fantasy
Bo Dennis can do many things; look great in black, solve mysteries, and, more dramatically, kill people with just a kiss. A succubus with an unknown past, Bo must use her wits and sexy sex powers to navigate the political world of the fae, while trying to find out more about who she really is.
I’ll admit, Lost Girl is kind of dumb. It’s not the best written series, the characters can be obvious and clichéd, and I absolutely do not care. With the world filled with dark tales with complicated storylines and fully fleshed out characters to follow, sometimes you just want to just veg out and not be wowed. Sometimes you just want to watch very attractive people kick some ass, and also occasionally make out. Lost Girl provides this, and dammit if it isn’t fun.
If you are in the mood for some high quality, trashy supernatural good times, take a break from Westworld and other more high minded choices, grab some ranch flavored chips, and watch you some Lost Girl.

Shut Eye (2016) Drama
https://youtu.be/kXTfBiHkfA4
Created by Leslie Bohem (who is also credited with writing for Dante’s Peak), Shut Eye is a story about a magician, Charlie Haverford (Donovan), who tried his luck performing in Vegas and failed. He finds himself trying to make a living for his family in Los Angeles, working as a psychic for what is essentially the gypsy mafia. A simple concept at first glance, it is so much more than magic tricks and violence.
At first, Charlie shows us how the psychic industry is largely comprised of money-making schemes and scam artists. He isn’t happy making money and having to hand it to his boss, Fonzo (Sampson), who is the head of a gypsy family. After a nasty kick to the head from the angry boyfriend of a client who Charlie told was cheating on her, Charlie starts seeing things he can’t explain. Each new situation gets more intense with this change in Charlie, and the ride begins.
Refreshingly, this story doesn’t start off with any notion of psychic abilities being real. With that, the story holds more realism than expected. Add to it his wife Linda’s (Strickland) steamy affair with a woman who is steeped in mystery as she tries to find work as a hypnotist, murder, and betrayal, this show will have you hooked from the very beginning.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003) Sci-Fi / Fantasy / Comedy / Drama / Action
Before he brought us the Avengers, or even Firefly, Joss Whedon first gave us the brilliance that is Buffy. He initially created the character for the 1992 film of the same name. However, he was dissatisfied with the final product, as many changes were made to his script and characterizations.
So, a few years later, he resurrected the shallow valley girl as who she was meant to be – a certified badass demon hunter who gets by with a little help from her friends, but still feels alone in the world.
Throughout the seven seasons, we meet a plethora of characters – some lovable (Giles, Willow, Tara, Dawn, Joyce, Xander, Riley), some loathable (Cordelia, Glory, Faith, Jonathan, Andrew, Warren, Drusilla, Harmony, Principal Snyder), and some equal measures of both (Spike, Angel, Anya, and Buffy herself).
Be prepared to spend a metric sh*t-ton of time on this one once you start. Also, be prepared to be Whedoned (the killing off of your favorite characters). But trust me, it’s worth it.

Hunting Hitler (2015) Documentary
https://youtu.be/IYD4phhZ_Hg
What if the belief that Adolf Hitler killed his wife and committed suicide in a bunker in Berlin at the end of World War II was an elaborate fabrication? It sounds like another conspiracy theory, just like a lot of the stories from that era. But once you find out that no one actually laid eyes on the faces of the dead people believed to be Hitler and his wife and then the bodies were burned without autopsy or investigation, things get a little blurry and a whole lot more interesting.
The FBI recently declassified documents that were previously redacted in regards to Hitler and his operations in Europe and abroad. Normally investigations into historical events are largely theory-based, with no real proof to back it up. This documentary is different. Witnesses are interviewed that are still alive after all this time. Discoveries are made while traveling to places discussed in the now public “top secret” interviews of war criminals. This needs to be watched.
