Man-Thing is one of those characters that only hardcore Marvel fans know about. Most will just assume you’re talking about Swamp Thing or a penis.
The character actually got his own solo movie back in 2005 that was originally going to be released into theaters, but eventually made its way on to the SyFy channel as an original movie – and that’s because it was just plain awful.
Aside from that, the character hasn’t really been incorporated into Marvel’s movie and TV plans. The character was briefly referenced on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Man-Thing’s alter-ego Ted Sallis’ wife was on Iron Man 3, but nothing really all that big.
Well, it appears that the company is making a new push to bring the character some more fans, as they just announced that Goosebumps author R.L. Stine will be writing a new series for the character.
Stine said that Marvel offered him a lot of different characters, but quickly settled on Man-Thing:
“I’m going to do a lot of action and a lot of great violence and make it creepy, but I’m going to make it funny at the same time,” he said. “It’s what I try to do in my books.”
