Everyone remembers Baywatch for two things. The ridiculous slow-motion runs on the beach and the presence of the David Hasselhoff. The show, which surprisingly lasted for a decade, was about as far as you could get from fine art. Still, many find potential in its interesting set-up.
Whether you like it or not, we have a Baywatch film adaptation on the way. Brought to us by director Seth Gordon, who is most known for his work on Horrible Bosses, this adaptation on the show looks to bring a modern comedic spin to the original. We have the first trailer for this adaptation, along with its synopsis:
Two unlikely prospective lifeguards vie for jobs alongside the buff bodies who patrol a beach in California.
To be honest, this trailer did very little in making me believe in this project. On paper, the idea is a sound one. Assembling a cast with the likes of Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron is always a good start, and we all saw recently with 21 Jump Street that these adaptations can be a lot of fun.
This trailer however is a rather lackluster one. All the humor here either feels extremely juvenile or recycled, with the trailer not featuring a single laugh out loud gag. The cast is solid, but if the material on the page is awful, I have a hard time seeing this be a successful comedy.
We’ll have to wait and see, as Baywatch hits shores May 19, 2017.
