Back when Rogue One was announced in 2015, we had no idea that another standalone Star Wars film was supposed to be unveiled at the same time.
Director Josh Trank was set to helm a Boba Fett solo movie, Entertainment Weekly has revealed. The two films were set to be officially announced on the same day, at the “Star Wars Celebration” event in Anaheim in spring 2015. A panel was scheduled for the two directors to talk about their movies, revealing titles, subject matter, and even teasers.
However, just days before, Trank dropped out of the panel, leaving Gareth Edwards alone to announce Rogue One. No reason was given. Days later, he was officially removed from the film, which was shelved soon after. Given the disaster that was Trank’s terrible Fantastic Four movie, I’d say we dodged a bullet with this one.
The good news is, the project isn’t off the table. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy revealed to EW that there are still more Star Wars films to be announced, after Rogue One’s performance has been assessed. So stay tuned!
