Well it seems as if the wait it over. The first trailer for Ghost In The Shell has finally arrived and already thousands of people have been quick to make up their minds across the internet.
However, that’s not all, as we’ve also been treated to the first opening two minutes of the movie courtesy of IGN who were apparently granted special privileges to record and upload the footage from last nights Ghost In The Shell conference in Japan.
Although there’s not a whole lot revealed in the opening two minutes, we are presented with some lovely visuals from director Rupert Sanders who’s only film to date has been the critically lukewarm, Snow White and the Huntsman. Previous to that, he made quite the name for himself directing numerous television advertisements, with one of his most famous being for Halo 3: ODST which had won him two Golden Lions at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival.
Check out the first two minutes below:
What is promising however is how visually faithful the film looks in terms of aesthetics and it’s also great to hear Kenji Kawai’s new drum composition play in the introduction which is a nice tip of the hat to the original anime. As many fans will know Kenji Kawai was the composer for the 1995 animated film and has been brought back to record the new composition at Rupert Sanders request.
So far at least, it looks as if the whole cast and crew are trying their best at respecting the source material. What one does have to remember however is that the animated film wasn’t exactly a panel for panel representation of the manga so if the movie does end up taking some unexpected twist and turns along the way then fans shouldn’t get too caught up.
Ghost in the Shell hits theaters March 31, 2017.
