Throughout the rest of this year and early into the next, Image Comics will be releasing a 48 page prequel detailing the backstory of The Walking Dead’s most popular villain: Negan. So far, the series ‘Here’s Negan’ has seen a total of 3 issues released, totaling for 12 pages.

POTENTIAL COMIC SPOILERS FOLLOW!

The first 4 of which reveal Negan to have been a high school gym teacher who’d invite his students over to play ping pong in his garage. It results in Negan embarrassing one of the students before his wife decides to criticize his actions.

The issue ends with her fainting, and the next 4 pages take place right after.

It’s there that we discover Negan’s wife has been diagnosed with cancer.

The third issue follows Negan coming to terms with his wife, ending an affair with another woman, and realizing that he wants to spend time with his wife as she slowly diminishes in her hospital bed.

It’s there that a man attempts to get Negan out of the hospital, and he looks out the window to see the apocalypse has begun.

That’s quite an upsetting story, for a man who’s considered one of the worst and most brutal villains in recent years if not all time. With quite a few issues left to go, it makes me wonder where the story will go next, and could it even redeem Negan’s current actions in the process?

The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9PM EST on AMC.
