People worldwide are still outraged over the election result and it seems as if America has been divided into two over Trumps rise to power. As is usually the case with any big event in politics or world affairs, it seems as if celebrities are now using their voice to connect with the people and make their own opinions clear on the whole fiasco.
Academy Award winning actress Jennifer Lawrence has expressed her own thoughts on the election in an editorial piece for Broadly. The Hunger Games star took the opportunity to confront voters on their decision for electing Trump however the majority of her piece had a more positive tone as she encouraged the nation to keep moving forward.
“Do not let this defeat you — let this enrage you! Let it motivate you! Let this be the fire you didn’t have before. If you are an immigrant, if you are a person of colour, if you are LGBTQ+, if you are a woman — don’t be afraid, be loud!”
Lawrence also went on to directly speak to the young women of the country encouraging them not to give up in the face of adversity:
“We’re all allowed to be sad that the present isn’t what we thought it was but we mustn’t be defeated. We will keep educating ourselves and working twice as hard as the man next to us because we know now that it is not fair. It is not fair in the workplace, so you make it impossible to fail.”
Trump has caused much controversy over his disparaging remarks on women, the Muslim faith and the LGBT community. However, after much media scrutiny it seems as if his remarks had caused little damage to his electoral campaign which has now seen him being elected into the White House.
With plenty of protests in action, it’ll be interesting to see where the US will go from here. Who knows maybe Jennifer Lawrence will don her Katniss Everdeen gear and cause a revolution!
What did you make of the election? Do you see Trump implanting any of his ideas? Or do you think it’ll all cool over? Sound off down below!
