Since the post-credits scene in Deadpool revealed that the incredibly powerful, time-traveling mutant Cable would be along for the ride in the sequel, we’ve spent the last eight months endlessly speculating who should play him, and how big of a role he might play in the film.
Cable is, hands-down, my favorite comic book character. I have a picture in my mind of how he looks, sounds, moves, and thinks. But not everyone is so familiar with him, so it might be hard to imagine a 6’8, 350 pound human wall with a bionic arm and a laser eye. From the future, no less.
So, if you’re having a bit of trouble turning that description into a clear mental image, this fan film is here to help. “Cable: Chronicles of Hope” follows the journey of Nathan Summers (the son of Cyclops) and his adopted daughter, Hope, as they travel from the distant future, back to the present day. But the world isn’t the one they expected to find.
Groups of mutant-hating militants known as Purifiers roam the land, hunting and exterminating those who were born different. Cable and Hope have a massive shootout with the Purifiers, aided by the sudden appearance of Nightcrawler.
While this fan film clearly didn’t have Hollywood money or talent, it’s obvious that the people behind this have real love for the character and his backstory – everything a fan film should put on the screen. For what they had to work with, it’s very well done.
What do you think of this film? And who is your pick to bring Cable to life in Deadpool 2? Tell us your thoughts!
