In 2018, the hunt will begin all over again when Lethal Weapon director, Shane Black brings The Predator back to the big screen in the film of the same name. Given the directors penchant for adding black humour into his films, many wondered if The Predator would go the same way. Now, thanks to an interview with the man himself we may finally have an answer to that question. Read on to find out more.
In an interview with Collider, Black was asked about what tone he would be bringing to the film, to which he revealed:
I think the Predator movies have slightly veered from typical sci-fi in that there is a sort of thriller aspect to them. I think it should be scary, I think it should be funny, and I think ultimately it should be wondrous and about perceiving things that human beings very seldom get a chance to see… I don’t mean movie audiences I mean characters in the movie. I’m not saying the movie will be nothing anyone’s seen before (laughs).”
Whilst Black’s trademark humour is certainly not out of place in his previous films such as a Lethal Weapon, Iron Man 3 and The Nice Guys, seeing the characters being hunted down by the fearsome alien making wisecracks would certainly have removed some part of the film’s tension. So it’s good to see that Black is intending to keep the tone of the film as scary as possible.
Not much is known about The Predator so far, except that it will be set in the present day and is rumoured to feature Narcos star Boyd Holdbrook.
The Predator is rumoured to be hitting theatres March 2nd 2018.
