At the back end of last week the news broke that Tim Miller, the man who brought Deadpool to the big screen had stepped down from the film’s sequel. Rumours swirled that this was due to a conflict between himself and the film’s star, Ryan Reynolds over who should portray the time-travelling mutant Cable. Now it sounds like there may be more to the matter than first assumed. Read on to find out more.
The Wrap is reporting that the director left the highly anticipated sequel due to creative differences in regards to the film’s style. Apparently Reynolds and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were looking to keep a similar budget and gritty style to the first film, whilst Miller was hoping to create a film more akin to the wider superhero market.
According to The Wrap’s Insider:
“There were two totally different movies on the table, and one of them just wasn’t Deadpool.”
Apparently the film that Miller was looking to create, would have cost three times the amount of the first film’s budget of $58 Million. Something which the actor and writers felt would take away from what made the first film such a success. Given that it made $780 Million, perhaps it was the better call not to mess with the formula.
Another rumor claimed that it was the choice of actor for Cable which caused a rift, with Reynolds disapproving of Millers choice of Kyle Chandler. It’s currently unknown who Reynolds is looking at for the role.
Deadpool 2 doesn’t currently have a release date set.
What do you think? Do you believe that this was the cause of the rift? Which version of the film would you prefer? Let us know below!
