A new trailer for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie has been released this morning. And it seems to follow the games quite truly.
For those unaware of the games, they focus on both modern and past storylines, and the film will be doing such by giving star Michael Fassbender two roles.
His modern character will be Callum Lynch while in the past he’ll be playing Spanish Assassin Aguilar during the time of the Inquisition.
What’s interesting about this film, however, is that it won’t be a mere recreation of the games. Rather, it’ll be a sequel to the pre-existing storyline, creating a much larger universe.
There’s even a great bit of fan service when Fassbender utters the series’ signature line,
“We work in the dark to serve the light.”
Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th-century Spain,” the official synopsis of the film reads. “Callum discovers he is a descendant from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.
The film hits theaters December 21, 2016.
