This year’s all-female Ghostbusters reboot has somehow become one of the most controversial subjects on the internet. If you didn’t think the movie would be good, you were labeled a misogynist who wasn’t open to the idea of female leads. If you thought it looked promising, you were betraying the original and weren’t considered a “true fan”. There seems to be no way to win with this film. No matter the opinion, you’re pissing someone off. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Screen Junkies’ recent Honest Trailer of the film started off by saying it wasn’t allowing comments on the video, thus avoiding any arguments that might ensue in the comment section.
In the trailer itself, our favorite epic voice provided by Jon Bailey wasn’t shy on calling out people who said the movie sucked without seeing it before conceding, “It’s bad. I’m not gonna lie to you guys. I mean, it wasn’t as bad as they said it was going to be but still, it’s pretty bad.”
Aside from making fun of the pre-release controversy, the trailer also criticizes the lack of chemistry between the leads, the forgettable villain, and its constant conflict of wanting to be its own thing, but at the same time, retreading territory of the original film, among other things.
The Epic Voice states, “Suit up for a film that’s desperate to prove it’s not like the original, but also desperate to remind you of the original at every opportunity.”
However, even if you disagree that the film is bad, the trailer reminds us of the one thing we can all agree was terrible: The Fall Out Boy cover of the Ghostbusters theme.
