2017 looks to be a good year for fans of Marvel’s web-slinger. Aside from the new film Spider-Man: Homecoming, fans also have a new series on Disney XD to look forward to simply titled Marvel’s Spider-Man.
Set to premiere some time after Ultimate Spider-Man ends its five-year run, this new series will focus on a younger, more inexperienced version of Peter Parker, likely made similar to Tom Holland’s take in both Captain America: Civil War and the upcoming film. It will created by Kevin Shinick, well known for Robot Chicken, with Philip Pignotti, well known for his work on Avengers Assemble, serving as supervising director.
Aside from how the titular hero will be portrayed, not much is known about the series at this time. Cort Lane, the senior vice president of Marvel Animation and Entertainment stated that the show will take a “back to basics approach…filled with heart and humor.” Marc Buhaj, senior vice president of programming and general for Disney XD stated the show would be “a fresh take on a beloved classic that will engage both new and existing Spidey fans with its compelling drama, exciting action and the signature sense of comedy.”
The show’s exact release date in 2017 is not yet known.
