When it comes to genuinely nice guys, you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone more so than Marvel Legend Stan Lee. Now, Stan The Man is looking to bring this ‘niceness’ to the rest of the country by bridging the divide between the police and the African-American community. Read on to see what it is.
The 93 year old editor has revealed that he has designed a new pin, which he hopes will be worn by Law enforcement, Politicians and sports teams which he hopes in turn will create a little more tolerance in the world.
Speaking to The Washington Post’s Comic Riffs, Lee explained how the idea came about after his daughter J.C. remarked on why there can’t be a pin which symbolizes mutual respect to be worn in the same way that many political figures wear an American flag pin. Lee revealed:
“JC’s remarks sent me back to the drawing board, and I designed such a pin.”
You can check out the design below.
Lee explains that the design is intended to be simple in order to get effective and is about coming together, rather than supporting any one side.
Lee explains that he is hoping that the design will eventually have a big impact on society, telling the publication:
It is our desire, that the ‘Hands of Respect’ symbol spreads into the general culture.”
However this isn’t the first time Lee has attempted to address this issue, with him going on to say:
I always felt the X-Men, in a subtle way, often touched upon the subject of racism and inequality, and I believe that subject has come up in other titles, too, but we would never pound hard on the subject, which must be handled with care and intelligence.”
Lee closes off the interview with:
As a believer in the inert goodness of man,’ before adding ‘I’m hoping that the pin will serve to remind people that America is made of different races and different religions, but [that] we’re all co-travelers on the spaceship Earth and must respect and help each other along the way.”
Its certainly good to see the veteran comic book writer still trying to bring about change in this world, hopefully it will actually work.
