Ever since it was first rumored, fans of the thirteen book series A Series of Unfortunate Events, have been eager to see even the smallest glimpse of a possible Netflix show based on the books. An official announcement came back in July of 2015 and fans of the series have been getting hyped ever since.
This, of course, isn’t the first attempt made to adapt the successful novels by Daniel Handler (going under the now famous alias of Lemony Snicket). A film adaptation was made back in 2004 by Nickelodeon Movies with Jude Law as Snicket and Jim Carrey stealing the show as Count Olaf, the antagonist of the series. It was loosely based on the first three books and many fans felt it didn’t live up to the same quality. While Carrey’s performance as well as the other actors received praise, fans of the books criticized how it rushed many plot elements and took way too many liberties from the source material. Because of this, fans are hoping the Netflix series will be a more loyal adaptation and new articles about it have been showing signs of hope.
An official teaser of the series was recently released to announce the official release date of the first episode for new series. The teaser features Lemony Snicket (played here by Patrick Warburton) walking around the set and telling the audience that there have been so many production troubles and, in typical Snicket fashion, warns the audience that they shouldn’t watch. He’s then interrupted by, what has been assumed to be the voice of Count Olaf (played by Neil Patrick Harris). As the scene fades to black, we get our logo and official release date of January 13, 2017. Reactions to the teaser have so far been positive and things are looking bright for fans of the books who weren’t completely satisfied with the 2004 film.
