Bloody Marvel. There we all are. Lying on our backs having binged ourselves senseless on the recently released ‘Luke Cage’, and they’ve already started releasing teasers online about ‘Iron Fist’. The swines….
But, of course, this is Marvel. Why give everyone all the information they need, when you can drop the bare minimum, sit back, and benefit from limitless amounts of free hype as the fan-forums go wild with speculation and crazy theories?
A 15 second video, which dropped today, shows an incense burner sat in the middle of the screen. The smoke slowly forms the ‘Iron Fist’ dragon logo, before disappearing to show the newly announced release date for be series of March 17th 2017. So the good news is you’ve only got six short months to wait until the last installment needed to make up the full ‘Defenders’ lineup. And, of course, there’s the small matter of that announced solo ‘Punisher’ series too….
It’ll be interesting to see in what direction the show runners take the series, given that every one of the preceding Netflix offerings have differed greatly in how they were executed. Given the supernatural and magical overtones associated with the character, and his association with The Hand in the comics, our guess is it’ll be closest in tone to ‘Daredevil.’
So far, apart from this new video, all fans have to work off is a teaser trailer, and a whole host of leaked set photos. The minute long Comic-Con footage back in July showed the Rand family dying in a plane crash in K’un L’un. After having being found by a pair of monks, we were then shown a bearded and barefoot Danny stand returning to New York, before he punches a door off its hinges with power that would make Luke Cage wince.
To complement this, the set photos have shown Finn Jones’s fellow GoT actress Jessica Henwick as the mysterious Colleen Wing, who was teased right at the end of ‘Luke Cage’. They’ve also shown Rand being reunited with childhood friend Joy Meachum, played by Jessica Stroud. Her nefarious father Harold Meachum will be played by LOTR’s David Wenham, and is believed to be the show’s main villain. Oh, and there have been a lot of shots of people lying down, apparently having experienced the power of the Iron Fist.
All that has naturally left us howling and baying for more information, and as we get it, we’ll let you know.
