Despite a very solid hit with box office numbers and some fair supporters in the films, quite a few fans and majority of critics think otherwise with the DC Cinematic Universe line-up for Man of Steel, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad. The RottenTomatoes scores and ratings show a voice is being heard and Warner Bros. has listened.
Reported by Variety, Time Warner chairman-CEO Jeff Bewkes spoke at an investory conference earlier today, answering that the films of the DCEU could have “a little room for improvement” in production and are aware some of the scripts are at fault (we’re looking at you, David S. Goyer).
The DC Comics characters…have a little more lightness in them than maybe what you saw in those movies, so we’re thinking about that.”
He did, however, show strong positives in what was approved by many. The televised DC shows and the amazing portrayal of the Caped Crusader by Ben Affleck were on the highlights. And with the financial successes for many of the titles, Batman V Superman at $873.3 million and Suicide Squad following with $720.1 million, it shows no signs of stopping. With Bewkes addressing they are “right on course or better“, it sounds like configuring approaches both creatively and production-wise may be a certainty.
Although a good amount (myself included) believe the DCEU films are much better than the initial critics and film-goers give them, it does take some bravery to admit to the masses that they are able to admit whatever faults they feel are theirs, and with that sort of want for improvement, may provide better quality for the majority in mind. There is a clear quality of improvement from Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice to Suicide Squad, so with where they go in mind with their cinematic universe may in fact be interesting and hopefully can continue to be individualistic like the three films in they are.
