One of the coolest parts of Batman vs Superman was the sneak peaks we got at the future members of the Justice League. When Bruce Wayne stumbled upon the stolen property Diana Prince was looking for, he was in for several great shocks. Not only did he find out that Diana was an ancient warrior, but he also discovered that there are several other people in this world with extraordinary secrets. There’s a kid who can move at the speed of light. A mysterious humanoid dwelling on the bottom of the sea.
And the final, most horrific image of all was that of a young African American man – or at least, parts of him. We aren’t told what put him in this nightmarish condition, but another man, a doctor, is shown conducting tests on what appear to be bionic parts to replace what is missing. However, the test subject screams in unbearable pain throughout the process, leading the crestfallen doctor to declare the attempt a failure.
Comic readers know that the story is even more disturbing than what is shown. The young man’s name is Victor Stone, and the doctor working on him is his own father, Silas Stone. Victor was gravely injured in an accident at his father’s laboratory, and Silas is trying to save his son’s life by any means necessary.
Silas is eventually successful, and Victor becomes Cyborg – a cybernetic organism, his small amount of humanity augmented by mechanical implants. These enhancements give him great strength and power, but they do not heal his mind. He is devastated by what has happened to him, and nearly driven mad by what his father has turned him into without his consent.
Eventually, of course, he comes to terms with his new existence, and chooses to uses his powers for good. He joins the Justice League, and helps Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, and Aquaman to defeat the forces of evil on earth.
Now that we’ve covered his backstory for the benefit of the uninitiated, we can all fangirl equally over this behind the scenes look. Apparently, a few costumes were created that never made it to the screen, and one of them is this look for Cyborg. Take a look!

Twitter user Dennis Lamb posted this picture on Saturday, with the caption “Flash and Cyborg maquettes that Ironhead Studios did for Batman vs Superman.”
Interestingly, Cyborg’s design is somewhat reminiscent of Marvel’s Ultron, with his metallic body and glowing red eyes. But it also resembles his comic form, so it’s coincidence rather than plagiarism. And since this looks much like what he’ll eventually become, there’s a decent chance that this heretofore unused costume just might show up in Justice League Vol. 1.
Do you wish you had seen this version of Cyborg in BvS? Or are you glad that it won’t be used until later? And are you impressed with what you see, or are you hoping for a redesign? Let us know in the comments!
