Benicio Del Toro is in talks to join The Predator, according to Deadline. The movie is set to be a new sequel to the original 1987 film which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger.
According to TheHollywoodReporter, it will be “an ensemble piece anchored by the character to be played by Del Toro.”
Shane Black will be directing the film, set for a release date on March 2, 2018. This is notable in that Shane Black played the character Hawkins in the original Predator.
Black will also be working with an old collaborator of his, Fred Dekker, who will be writing this new interpretation of the Predator franchise. The two previously worked together on films like The Monster Squad, so the two definitely have chemistry.
Personally, I’m rather excited for this entry. From what Black has said before is exactly what I think the franchise needs – proper succession. Rather than create another rehash, or remake everything, he wants to see the original film’s lore expand into something much bigger.
And that’s what should have been the case decades ago – Alien, Terminator, they all had sequels that were bigger and better.
So why not Predator?
