South Park is nothing short of amazing. The show is entering its 20th season tomorrow and in the nineteen seasons before it, has shown no sign of ever deteriorating in quality. Last season covered a lot of controversial issues such as Caitlin Jenner, white privilege, political correctness and cyberbullying. As usual, Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s way of handling these topics were just as controversial as well as brilliant.
With Season 20’s premiere getting closer and closer, fans can’t help but wonder what issue the show will satirize this time. Thankfully, a clip uploaded on the show’s official Twitter yesterday gave us a taste of what exactly Parker and Stone decided to tackle: Colin Kaepernick and his controversial decision not to stand during the National Anthem.
The clip features a number of South Park’s citizens singing a new version of The Star-Spangled Banner where they praise Kaepernick’s actions and call cops pigs. But suddenly “Oh no! Someone stole my stuff!” Suddenly, they regret the calling the cops pigs and lamenting on why they listened to Kaepernick. And then the minute they get their stuff back, surprise! Cops are pigs again!
If this one clip is any indication, we have plenty to look forward to in terms of vulgar comedy and satire when we return to town of South Park tomorrow.
