It definitely seems that Marvel is looking to branch out a bit from their very dark Netflix shows. Series for New Warriors, Runaways and Cloak and Dagger (if made) will definitely break from that trend and we have an update on the last one:
Cloak and Dagger’s showrunner is ABC Family/Freeform vet John Ziffren. He was picked because of his new take on the premise (as opposed to Marvel’s earlier plans of setting the show in a post-Katrina New Orleans, a setup that Freeform and Marvel now feel is a bit dated, as well as more expensive than Los Angeles), focusing more on the romantic aspect of the characters.
For those of you unfamiliar with Ziffren, a quick glance through his filmography on IMDb will tell you the type of show that Cloak and Dagger could be. He’s produced titles such as Switched at Birth and Melissa and Joey – neither of which I’ve seen, or plan to see (no offense). His profile will also show that he’s listed as an executive producer on the Cloak and Dagger. While Marvel hasn’t confirmed it, I’m sure they will in the near future.
I’ll leave it to all of you, though. What do you think of the choice?
