It was announced last week via The Wrap, that Man of Steel 2 had finally been moved into active development over at Warner Brothers. While no other details were revealed, a new rumor gives us a couple of candidates who could be sitting in the directors seat. Read on to find out who is in line.
The recent rumor comes courtesy of the Internet message board, 4chan and reveals the following:
Top candidates to direct Man of Steel 2 are Doug Liman, J.J Abrams and Edgar Wright.
Of course, given the source – this should be taken with a grain of salt.
Edgar Wright is no stranger to comic book movies, having previously directed Scott Pilgrim vs The World and spent nearly ten years working on Ant-Man for Marvel. Although that project unfortunately fell through leaving Peyton Reed to take the reins.
Doug Liman on the other hand, hasn’t had much experience when it comes to Comic Book Movies, but he did adapt the Japanese Novel/Manga All You Need is Kill into 2014’s sleeper hit Edge of Tomorrow. Incidentally, this film was released by Warner Bros., so it may be likely that they would be looking to work with him again.
The third director listed, J.J Abrams also has plenty of history with big budget blockbusters, having director the Star Trek reboot and last years Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He also has plenty of experience with the character, having previously worked on the cancelled film, Superman: Flyby which coincidentally also saw Henry Cavill audition for the titular hero.
All three of these candidates would definitely have the chops for a Man of Steel sequel, what’s surprising is the lack of Mad Max director, George Miller, whose name is often thrown around for the rumored film. Although if rumors are to be believed, Warner Brothers may have another project in mind.
Man of Steel 2 is yet to be announced, but we can next see Henry Cavill’s Kryptonian hero in Justice League, set to hit theaters November 17th, 2017.
