Yesterday, Marvel Television announced that it will bring a new group of superheroes from the comics to the small screen, “Runaways.” Now, Runaways isn’t exactly a mainstream comic by any means, but it is definitely far from being mediocre. The comic tells the story of six teens trying to defeat their parents from sacrificing the world so they can eventually rule it (who didn’t want to defeat their parents as a teen?) who end up being part of a super secret evil society called The Pride.
Oh, it doesn’t stop there, trust me.
One group of parents are aliens set on destroying the world, another couple are time travelers, and the other are dark wizards. So, it not only makes for a great comic, but it will also make for a great TV series – with a stipulation. This is coming to Hulu. If Hulu takes a page from Netflix’s book, then we shouldn’t have a problem.
With the hugely successful Daredevil series, fueling the now fully hyped “Netflix MCU,” why wouldn’t we be excited as comic book fans?? Shows like Daredevil and Jessica Jones have shown us that there is space on the small screen for superheroes, and not just the snot nosed Avengers, but true blue gritty superheroes that have no problem defending their turf.
The Pride fully controls The City of Angels to the point that Kingpin won’t even dare look their way. I could also spend the next three pages going into all their different powers, how the six end up becoming a family to take on The Pride, or even get real crazy and start talking to you about the Gibborim and how they are basically strong enough to take on Asgard and all its occupants; but we won’t go there.
All you need to know is, it’s fantastic, it’s coming, and let’s pray Hulu keeps the trend going. If they can make another show that is as intense and fantastic as Daredevil- then I’m sold.
