Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold the phone. So you’re going to tell me that James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy, Dawn of the Dead) has had been offered and had a chance to make DC Comic movies? …ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!?!
In a recent Q&A, Gunn was asked his opinion on the recent ho-hum of the DC universe. He didn’t reveal much but he did say that he thought there was some pretty epic action in Man of Steel but still hasn’t seen either BvS or Suicide Squad (we don’t blame you). He then decided to drop this little nugget of info in our laps:
“I’ve had opportunities to make DC films, but I haven’t said yes to anything, and not sure I would at this time.”
So, you’re going to tell me that the man behind the sleeper hit of the decade, has has thought to write for DC!? This is both amazing and saddening at the same time. For those of you who do not know who James Gunn is – he is the writing talent behind movies such as Dawn of the Dead, Super, Movie 43 and most importantly… Guardians of the Galaxy. I think I speak for everybody when I say that most of us didn’t know what to expect before we watched that movie (even the comic book nerds like myself).
But we all had the same reaction leaving the theater. Everything, from the acting, to the cinematography, to the visuals, to the (who’d could forget, I’m actually listening to it right now) soundtrack, Guardians of the Galaxy was one of those movies that just made everything right in the world.
So to find out that Gunn has been offered and might actually write a DC movie in the future makes me stoked as hell. When asked which properties appealed to him the most, he responded with:
I’ve talked before about which projects appeal to me the most if I was into making one, and it’s always Shazam and Metal Men and Swamp Thing and [Jonah] Hex and a few other DC IPs I’ve enjoyed for a great deal of my life.”
As an avid DC fan, this makes me truly excited. Guardians of the Galaxy is one of my all-time favorite comic book movies and probably the best movie of 2014.
What do you think? Would you like to see James Gunn write for DC? Let us know in the comments!
