Moon Film has made an awesome compilation showcasing (almost) EVERY comic book movie released in the last 50 years. From 1966’s Batman to 2016’s Dawn of Justice, and everything in between.
I’m sure that making this video was quite an undertaking. Compiling titles, release dates, and footage for 100 films (yes, I counted) is no small feat. Fortunately, someone with more patience than myself has done a lovely job, and I have only to view and opine (and be sure to check out my personal ranking of the films below the video):
So, while watching, it quickly occurred to me just how many truly great ones there have been over the years. Also, how many odious turds have somehow manged to get released. I mean, how many people do you think lost their jobs over Batman & Robin?
Which brings me to lists. As a Virgo with OCD (which basically means I’m double anal retentive), lists are one of my favorite things. Arranging stuff into categories gives me more joy than it probably should. And before you point out that I missed one somewhere, I’m not including all 100, as there are actually a few I haven’t seen. These are just the ones that jumped out at me as belonging in one category or another.
And they’re just my opinions. Don’t get your knickers in a twist. But feel free to tell me what you think. 😉

Batman (’89), The Crow, Blade, From Hell, The Punisher (’04), Constantine, V for Vendetta, 300, Iron Man, The Dark Knight, Watchmen, RED, Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers, Dredd, Man of Steel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, Deadpool, Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, Captain America: Civil War

BAD – BUT IN A FUN WAY
Batman (’66), Flash Gordon, Conan the Barbarian, The Mask, Tank Girl, Judge Dredd, The Phantom, Spawn (director’s cut), Spider-Man 1 & 2, Daredevil (director’s cut), The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Hellboy, Blade Trinity, Fantastic Four (’05), X-Men 3, Ghost Rider, Wanted, Kick-Ass, Scott Pilgrim vs the World, Green Lantern, The Dark Knight Rises, 2 Guns, X-Men: Apocalypse
FUCKING AWFUL, YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF
Swamp Thing, Supergirl, The Punisher (’89), Batman Forever, Barb Wire, Batman & Robin, Mystery Men, Catwoman, Elektra, Spider-Man 3, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Green Hornet, Fantastic Four (’15).
There you have it, peeps. Just to make sure we cover all the bases, that leaves 18 that I either haven’t seen, have forgotten I ever saw, or just don’t have an opinion on one way or the other. Which probably means they were bad, just not burned-into-my-memory terrible.
There are a few notable films left out of the list including Howard The Duck and Punisher: War Zone.
It now falls upon you, fair citizens of ScreenGeekOpolis, to decide if my ratings are just. (Just don’t be dicks about it. After all, who do we nerds have if we don’t have each other?) 😉
