When a comic book movie is announced, the most exciting aspect (besides who will be portraying the hero) is which villain they will be up against. This is even more exciting when it’s the first time the character will be on the big screen, as will be the case with the upcoming Aquaman film. Now, it sounds as though the mystery has been revealed and we know who the villain of the piece will be.
According to The Wrap, Jason Momoa’s titular hero will be going face to… giant mask with classic foe Black Manta. There is currently no word on who will be playing the villain but we’ll likely find out when filming begins.
In the comics, Black Manta is the arch nemesis of Arthur Curry aka Aquaman and uses a high tech battle aswell as enhanced strength in his attempt to bring down the Atlantean King. Later stories also saw Black Manta joining Amanda Waller’s Task Force X, so we may see the character make the leap should Suicide Squad receive a sequel. Although given how its first weekend in theaters has gone, might be unlikely.
Aquaman is set to make a splash July 27th, 2018.
