With Ghost Rider coming to Agents of SHIELD this fall, it seems Marvel has plans for a new comic launch to coincide with his arrival. That’s right, Ghost Rider is being revamped for Marvel.
According to TVGuide.com, the new comic series will be written by Felipe Smith with interior art done by Danilo Beyruth. There will also be involvement from Tradd Moore, who helped Smith originally create the newest interpretation of Ghost Rider, with Moore providing the background story for the first issue.
Smith’s take on Ghost Rider follows Robbie Reyes, a Mexican-American teen who wants to help himself and his disabled brother Gabe out of their run-down neighborhood. Unfortunately, Reyes winds up attached to the spirit of Eli, a serial killer who wishes to avenge his death.
Marvel’s EIC Axel Alonso is especially excited to have Felipe Smith returning to write.
“We were waiting for Felipe’s schedule more than anything,” said Alonso to TVGuide.com. “I would have loved to have launched it sooner, but he has a prosperous career in animation, we needed the time to carve it up and do it right.”
Finally, Smith is also happy about seeing the character’s appearance on Agents of SHIELD, and had this to say:
“Fans of the comics will be happy with what’s going on, on the show,” Smith said. “And I hope fans of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will welcome Robbie and check out our books.”
