The Joker has played a big part in the promotional side of Suicide Squads advertising campaign although if recent reviews are to be believed, his role doesn’t equate to much. However, according to Academy Award-winning actor, Jared Leto, The Joker was originally intended to play a much bigger part. Talking to Telestar, Leto recently revealed how he and director David Ayer, had shot a lot more scenes that unfortunately didn’t make the final cut:
“There are a lot of scenes that didn’t make it to the final film. Hopefully they will see the light of day. Who knows.”
The DC Cinematic Universe hasn’t really kicked off in the way that Warner Bros. had hoped for, with many critics failing to grasp the plot, direction and depth to the characters onscreen. With Suicide Squad currently sitting at 29% on Rotten Tomatoes, it doesn’t seem as if much has changed to win round critics.
It’s unfortunate to hear that The Joker’s role may have been cut down, especially with recent rumors that Warner Bros. had two cuts which were shown to test audiences, one which was Ayer’s original vision and the other being the studios ‘lighter’ cut, which was mainly in response to the negative backlash from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Whether or not we’ll get an extended cut when it comes to DVD remains to be seen.
What do you think of the critics? Will you still be seeing Suicide Squad? Are you disappointed in The Jokers role being reduced? Sound off down below!
