Jared Leto has developed quite a reputation during the filming of Suicide Squad, out this weekend, for playing tricks on his costars. They ranged from harmless pranks, like like sending Margot Robbie a live rat (which she kept briefly as a pet, before it was adopted by Guillermo del Toro), to disturbing stunts like gifting several members of the cast with used anal beads. Ick.

Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon didn’t get off any easier. Appearing on Monday night’s show, Leto presented Fallon with a small box, complete with a nice bow on top:

You know the Joker is a big giver of gifts. Have you heard about this? And he was thinking of you, and wanted to pass of this gift especially for you.”

Fallon accepts the box, regarding it with a wary eye. Smiling nervously, he opens the present very carefully, and promptly panics at the contents – a small snake. The tiny reptile makes its way out of the box, causing our illustrious host to bolt out of his seat.

Leto, after having a bit of fun with the whole situation, scoops up the critter and puts him back in his box. One can only hope that it found a permanent home with someone with a bit more of an affinity for creepy-crawlies.

“I’m so happy I saw the movie, and didn’t act in it with you!” Fallon said.

Poor Jimmy.

The Joker also included a note. Fallon read it out loud, and thanks presumably to Leto’s poor penmanship, turned a dirty joke even naughtier. Watch the video below!
