The upcoming Suicide Squad will be released soon, and hitting with many notable character introductions, from the first live film versions of Margot Robbie‘s Harley Quinn and Will Smith‘s Deadshot to new interpretations of classic characters such as Ben Affleck‘s Batman and a very interesting Jared Leto‘s Joker. One of the bigger talks around the town was, of course, with the ever popular Clown Prince of Crime’s return to cinema.
Picking up the mantle from the likes of Cesar Romero in the 1966 film, Jack Nicholson from Batman 1989 and the Oscar-winning performance of Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight, it is a very big pair of shoes to fill for an independent interpretation of the character to fit with the DC Cinematic Universe, and Oscar-winner Leto has proven to be a very attention-grabbing one from the trailers and social media’s reports on his antics.
However, there was never any contracts really discussed with a guaranteed reprisal of Leto for future films in the universe. As well, with the immense attention given to the “committed” method acting that made headlines with the likes of dead rats and used condoms, surely they can’t just consider using one of Batman’s greatest villains just this once, no?
Leto spoke with Good Morning America, saying we can only expect this is only the start for him:
I feel like this film is an introduction to the Joker, and I’m hopeful that we will see more to come. I think you don’t really say goodbye. I think the Joker’s in there somewhere.”
So we can at least confirm Leto is more than happy to return from the sound of it. You can check out the full interview and Leto’s experience here:
