EW has just revealed that distributors Well Go USA Entertainment have gotten the North American rights to the classic Phantasm horror film series. This includes the recently-announced and completed Phantasm V: Ravager. Both that film and the original 1979 Phantasm, now retitled Phantasm: Remastered, will be getting theatrical releases.
Phantasm: Remastered will screen first on Sept. 24 to celebrate Art House Theater Day. Then, Phantasm V: Ravager will be released in theaters and digital HD on Oct. 7. This includes HD restorations of Phantasm III: Lord of the Dead and Phantasm IV: Oblivion. (Phantasm II is also set for release, although it hasn’t been finalized.) And, at the end of the year, the films will be individually released on Blu-ray and DVD as well as together in a collector’s edition set.
It’s a swan song to the series,” Phantasm creator Don Coscarelli told EW regarding Phantasm V: Ravager. “There’s some new iterations of those brain-shucking spheres and a lot of good stuff that the fans will enjoy. It ties up a lot of the storylines and answers to some questions that fans have had.”
