With the growing popularity of the Pokemon Go app for smart phones, another dangerous event has come in effect of playing it.
On July 18th, 2016 at 3:30am, Baltimore Police Department captured surveillance of a parked patrol car struck by a driver of an RAV4, who turned out to be distracted by the very app. The driver came out, telling the officers “That’s what I get for playing this dumb ass game“.
Luckily, the accident did not claim any lives or injuries, but still served as a staple of the dangers of playing the game unfocused of your surroundings. The video was then posted on Twitter with “Don’t drive distracted #PlaySafe”:

Nintendo is very well aware of such occurrences, hence why the game’s common loading screen continues to suggest being aware of your surroundings. Unfortunately, this will very likely not be the last irresponsible event caused by those misusing the mobile game.
Pokemon Go is available now for download. And as the article shows, do mind your surroundings and stay safe.
