Leslie Jones Leaves Twitter Because of Racist Bullying And Harassment

    By Justin NuckollsJuly 19, 2016

In what seems to be a far too common and sad move by people in today’s socio-political climate, SNL and Ghostbusters star Leslie Jones announced she’s leaving Twitter last night due to the incessant amount of racists who have been bullying her on the social media platform lately.

I leave Twitter tonight with tears and a very sad heart. All this cause I did a movie. You can hate the movie but the shit I got today…wrong

    — Leslie Jones (@Lesdoggg) July 19, 2016

It is no secret that the Ghostbusters reboot she co-stars in has been much maligned by people on social media and other websites (here’s ScreenGeek.net’s review), but there is absolutely zero reason to attack someone personally because of one’s feelings over a movie. It’s just so abominable that it even has to come to this point, as the physical safety and anonymity internet can be a mask for peoples hate and vitriol  far too often.

These tweets are very offensive, so read at your own discretion:

Deadline reports that the studio was able to get several of the abusive Twitter accounts suspended, and the hashtag #LoveforleslieJ has risen in support of the comedienne; and several of Leslie’s colleagues have expressed their support and sympathy for the Ghostbusters star.

Leslie Jones is one of the greatest people I know. Any personal attacks against her are attacks against us all. #LoveForLeslieJ @Lesdoggg

@Lesdoggg queen, wishing you well. Go through your process and hopefully you find peace. Don’t let them stop you! ❤️
