Despite being a ratings hit for Fox, Batman origin show Gotham has never had the same reception when it comes to comic book fans, with the biggest grievance being that the villains are being introduced long before Bruce Wayne ever dons the cape and cowl. So far the show has seen The Joker, Catwoman, Mr Freeze and The Riddler all established and the next season looks to be continuing this trend with yet another of the heroes rogue gallery set to appear.
TV Line has reported that The Walking Dead actor, Benedict Samuel, will be joining the upcoming season as Jervis Tetch Aka The Mad Hatter. The Announcement made by Fox and Warner Brothers reveals the character as being ‘a talented hypnotist teetering on the edge of madness. He arrives in Gotham with an unwavering desire to find his sister, Alice, a young woman who went missing in the city years ago.‘ This definitely seems to imply that he will be keeping his fascination with Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland Story, although it appears that Alice won’t be someone he is infatuated with – like his comic background.
Based on Samuel’s recent appearance on The Walking Dead as the leader of the crazy, forehead carving survivors, The Wolves, the actor definitely has the creepy madman look nailed. Lets just hope he’ll be given an interesting story to work with.
We’ll see Samuel don his classic top hat when Gotham returns September 19th. Hopefully we’ll find out more interesting tidbits at the San Diego Comic Con, this weekend.
