It’s already been revealed that Guardian’s of the Galaxy: Vol 2 will have a presence as this years San Diego Comic Con, but now the film’s director, James Gunn has given us our first look at the team’s new lineup. Read on to check it out.
The concept art, illustrated by Andy Park, was posted on Gunn’s official Twitter page and gives us an official look at the team, including the latest recruit Mantis, played by Pom Klementieff. It also reveals that both Nebula (Karen Gillan) and Yondu (Michael Rooker) will also be joining Star-Lord and co in their latest outing. Whether this is a case of redemption for the villains or whether they are simply joining forces to battle a greater foe.
We also have some details on Mantis’ role in the film courtesy of EW’s interview with Johnathon Schwartz. He told the publication:
“She has never really experienced social interaction, Everything she learns about dealing with people, she learns from the Guardians of the Galaxy, which is a very weird group to learn your social intricacies from.”
It’ll be interesting to see who has the biggest effect on her personality wise.
Another big change from the previous film is the rebirth of Vin Diesel’s lovable sentient tree, Groot who is now nothing more than a sapling, albeit no longer confined to a plant pot. On this change in dynamic, Schwartz explained:
“He doesn’t have the wisdom and experience of that Groot. He’s a younger Groot and a more rambunctious Groot. The question is, is he the same Groot, just smaller? Or is he a different Groot that’s sprung up from the seed of the first Groot?”
Hopefully more information will be released when Marvel takes to Hall H in just over a weeks time. Those of us not there can check the film out when it blasts into theaters May 5th, 2017.
