New Line Cinema announced a new Mortal Kombat film several years ago and the last update received was last year, when it was confirmed James Wan would be attached to the film as a producer.
Today, however, brings us the next update on the film. Christopher Lambert, known for playing Raiden in the first Mortal Kombat movie, sat down in an interview with Loaded where he’s revealed that he is in talks to return as Raiden in Mortal Kombat 3.
“They have a great idea for the third one. It will be very different. We are going to be traveling through time but in a very special way. So imagine characters having a battle in the middle of London and then whoosh, you smash through a window and find yourself on the hood of a New York cab.”
Christopher Lambert also explained why he didn’t return for Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, saying:
“I didn’t want to do it because I didn’t think the script was very good. I didn’t like it. I liked the first one.”
It seems like this new Mortal Kombat might be going back to its roots with some new ideas thanks to the time travel aspect. However, the original Mortal Kombat is now one of the cheapest-looking, badly received films of the 1990s and all-time. So, is that the best place to go for a new film? Well, who knows?
