Pennywise. Just the name can bring chills to a person. A clown so horrifying he is single-handedly responsible for making millions of people afraid of clowns. Well thanks to Bill Skarsgård and New Line Cinema, Pennywise The Dancing Clown is back and ready to introduce a new generation to the horrifying fear of clowns.
EW gives us our first legitimately frightening look at the ominous clown from the long delayed Stephen King’s It reboot helmed by Argentine director Andrés Muschietti.
From the reveal it appears we’re going to be getting a much more magnetic and polished version of Pennywise in this new adaptation than the disheveled and abrasive portrayal of the character by Tim Curry in the 1990 mini-series. Skarsgård provides us with a tease of his interpretation of the eponymous It’s clown form in his interview with Ew.
“It’s important that we do something fresh and original for this one. It’s purposely not going toward that weird, greasy look,”… “Tim Curry’s performance was truly great, but it’s important for me to do something different because of that,”… “I’ll never be able to make a Tim Curry performance as good as Tim Curry.”
This is definitely a very large role to fill considering the classic, but Skarsgård seems ready and willing to fill those large and evil clown shoes.
It is scheduled for a September 8, 2017 release date and is currently filming in and around the Toronto.
