Scientists predict that by the year 2022, every actor and actress in Hollywood would have starred in at least one comic book film. In order for this to happen though, studios will need to develop every comic property available to them, no matter how silly the premise. One such character is Squirrel Girl, and luckily the studio may already have a willing volunteer to take the role.
Pitch Perfect actress Anna Kendrick was recently asked by the site Net-A-Porter whether she would be interested in Taking on a superhero role. Her response? Yes as long as it’s Squirrel Girl. She told the site:
“My brother sent me a Squirrel Girl comic because he thinks I should [play her], I don’t know what Squirrel Girl does other than be half squirrel, but I could be half squirrel!”
She definitely has the quirkiness it would take to play the character, who is usually portrayed with a great sense of irony about her. That being said, she is also a bit of badass, having previously taken out both Thanos and Dr Doom with her ‘special’ skill set.
The actress also explained that it was her coworker from The Voices, Ryan Reynolds, that inspired to enter the superhero genre having previously had his own success in this years Deadpool. She told the site:
“Ryan is one of the most authentic people I’ve worked with; I can’t think of a person more deserving of a hit like [Deadpool], He worked for so many years to get that film made because it’s a character that was inside of him.”
If Kendrick could have half the success that Reynolds had with Deadpool it would definitely be impressive given the obscurity of the character. It’s also unlikely that the character would fit into the MCU as it stands, that being said they already introduced Howard the Duck, so anything can happen.
What do you think? Would you like to see the character on the screen? Is there anybody else Kendrick would suit? Let us know below!
