TV Insider has word from the CW that Carly Pope (Popular, Orange County) has been cast as Susan Williams on Arrow.
They report that she’s “a journalist from nearby Coast City who comes to Star City ‘looking to make a name for herself’ by targeting Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) for a big story.”
Apparently, she’s an established character from the DC Comics. Keen eyes will notice that she hails from Coast City, the city in which Green Lantern, Hal Jordan patrols.
Coast City has made its way onto Arrow, as well as Flash, a time or two. It has even went to the point of referencing Jordan himself, via a name tag on a flight jacket. Of course, Jordan’s day job as a test pilot was how he found himself to the power ring in the first place.
Not to mention, both Teams Arrow and Flash have made a visit to Ferris Air, the very outfit Jordan flies for.
Adding Williams to the mix is yet another, hopeful step forward, that will probably turn out to be a bigger tease than some of Pope’s characters. It’s by time that we see the green pair of heroes team-up. Their shared title by Neal Adams and Dennis O’Neil brought forth many classic tales, such as the famous Speedy-addicted-to-Heroine story.
In the comics, Susan Williams marries Jim Jordan, brother to Hal. As the show’s version of the character goes by her maiden name, chances are, she hasn’t hooked up with Jim just yet. Though, I wonder how much she’ll be able to tell us of Coast City.
Season Five of Arrow will reportedly pick up on Wednesday, October 5th. Ollie will have his hands full with his new gig as mayor. Too full for a nosy reporter poking around. Nonetheless, Ollie will be juggling between City Hall and leading a new Team Arrow, as Echo Kellum’s Curtis Holt will surely become Mr. Terrific, and Rick Gonzalez will parade the streets as the new vigilante named Wild Dog.
