We’ve got a little bit of some zombies, couple of rebellions, lovers on the run mixed with a heaping pile of death, action and intrigue. These are the trailers you are going to want to watch.
American Honey
Star (Lane) is a teenage girl who meets a group of other teenagers that travels and sells magazines, and joins them without second a thought. The clip starts off looking carefree and full of youthful promise, while inspiring us to try and remember when that might have been important to us at that age. Set before us is a group of people that look really connected and who really seem to know how to enjoy their time. As Star becomes more involved in the group and with a boy named Jake (LaBeouf), things start spinning out of control, and she isn’t having fun anymore. Jake pulls a gun on some people at their house, demands their money, and he and Star drive off in one their convertibles. It pulled my emotions in all the ways it is supposed to and I actually really want to see this one.

Birth of a Nation (2016)
This directorial debut from actor Nate Parker has been building steam since it first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and only continues to grow with this first full trailer. The film tells the story of Nat Turner, a slave man that was given the task of preacher on a plantation. But too many times he’s witnessed the injustice of the treatment of so many of his brothers and sisters that he finally decides to stand up against his slave master. The rebellion begins.
The trailer goes through many scenes of the hard times black folks went through during that era, but gives a sense of hope and the chance to overcome. Everything seems to gel well except with the musical choice that comes off too preachy and unbalanced. But still, this will most likely be this year’s 12 Years a Slave.

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back
Action movies are a staple in Tom Cruise’s resume. He did well playing Jack Reacher in the first movie, interjecting his humor with all of the action and drama. In the trailer, it looks like he’s back at it again. He goes back to his old unit and finds out that, instead of investigating others, he is being accused of killing someone sixteen years prior, and is now on the run. His friend, Susan (Smulders), gets caught up in the mess and he has to keep her safe while trying to stay on the run.
I’ve had my fill of Tom Cruise branded action movies. He’s a genius, but seems to play the same role lately. Hard not to miss when you only have to practice the one character over and over. No doubt, the majority of people would love to see this film, and I suggest you do too, if you don’t feel as I do.

Westworld (TV Series 2016)
Inspired by the 1973 film of the same name, HBO has decided to turn this cult classic into a series with a list of talent that includes Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, and Clifton Collins Jr. For those who are unfamiliar with the original, the story takes place in a futuristic theme park set in the old west where people pay to live out their fantasies. But when the androids begin to rebel and the laws of 3 are no longer upheld by the androids, bad shit happens.
This updated version gives off a different vibe that maybe the reality the show is based on is not only real, but maybe has many layers not yet explained. There’s a lot of mystery and intrigue involved, and might be another hit for HBO.

Mechanic: Resurrection
Who doesn’t love Jason Statham? Or Tommy Lee Jones? They both come together in this film. Don’t ask me in what fashion, because it just shows a ton of action and no real plot. That’s not to say it’ll be bad, but at this point, there isn’t enough information on the storyline to really be able to tell. But watch it anyway. These two don’t usually miss.

The Girl with All the Gifts
I know, I know. We have The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead, World War Z, and other types of zombie filled media injected into the pop-culture world. So why not have another one from the UK? With the success of 28 Days Later (shut up I know it’s technically not a zombie film), The Girl with All the Gifts tries a different spin with the zombie genre.
A group of military personnel take a girl who might be the cure for the virus to a safe location in hopes of saviing humanity. But on the way, they will have to fight their way through hordes of zombies and the unknown in order to do so. The film does look interesting at least but teeters on the line of it possibly being great and the possibility that it could go downhill real quick. Still might give it a shot though.
